Natural Ant Elimination

I don’t remember ants being a major problem in Minnesota. Sure, if you had a picnic outside you might see some, but I don’t remember them being in my house. All. The. Time.  Florida is another story.  I think we’ve had ants in one part of our house or another almost constantly for the past year. I looked up & tried several natural solutions like vinegar, peppermint oil, & a few others but none seemed to really help long term. That is, until last week, a friend sent me this nifty little trick she found here to get rid of them, that doesn’t involve calling an exterminator, spending any money, or having all kinds of icky chemicals sprayed in our home.  So now, I will share it with you 🙂

Recipe:

  • 1 tsp Borax (natural laundry powder, sold in most stores)
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 6 Tbsp sugar
  • folded napkin or paper towel
  • shallow dish

Dissolve the Borax & sugar in the hot water. Soak the napkin in the mixture & put into the dish. Set the dish wherever you’re seeing the most ants (and away from the reach of any littles – Kaden was very disappointed we wouldn’t let him check it out.) The ants will be attracted to the sugar & go back to their nests & die (sorry ants, but I really wouldn’t have killed you if you hadn’t broken into my house; it’s self defense.)

I put this out around 9:30 a.m. & the ants were gone by 4 p.m. And I was very happy to have my clean house back 🙂

Happy Monday!
